surfcash
i thought surfcash was about to take off when we lost the market behind 90% of our payment volume.
i wanted to make arriving in a new country easier. you should be able to walk into a shop and pay, even if your money came from somewhere else. i built surfcash to turn stablecoins into local payments. in three months in vietnam, i brought in 5,000 users at a customer acquisition cost below $1.
across surfcash, more than 10,000 people had used what we built and we’d processed over $2.5 million. we were close to a fundraise. i was looking at the growth in vietnam and imagining how much faster we could go with the money to expand.
then regulatory changes led our banking and ramp partner to shut down payments in vietnam. we still had the product and the people using it, but we could no longer move their money there. people still use surfcash outside vietnam.
